Education
At the PACS Institute, our education initiatives bring our rigorous research into real-world practice.
We believe that structured peace education is essential for fostering sustainable, non-violent communities. Our programs translate rigorous interdisciplinary research into practical applications, empowering individuals and communities to actively engage in peacebuilding – from school classrooms in Mexico to the next generation of peace leaders worldwide.
Educational Approach
Sustainable change is rooted in comprehensive peace education. Collaborating with local organizations and schools, we develop and implement structured peace education curricula that:
Foster non-violent conflict resolution skills
Encourage respectful communication and collaborative problem-solving
Empower children to reflect on their behavior and build healthier relationships
Our approach is informed by critical academic research and adapted to the unique cultural and social context of each community.
Project Spotlight:
Preventing School Violence in Fracción Milpillas, Mexico
In 2022, PACS Institute launched a comprehensive peace education program in Fracción Milpillas, Mexico— a community facing the highest rate of violence in schools in the world. This initiative encompassed:
Curriculum Development: Creating modules focused on communication, conflict resolution, and collaborative problem-solving.
Teacher Training: Equipping educators with the tools to facilitate peace education effectively.
Community Engagement: Involving parents and local leaders to reinforce the principles of non-violence beyond the classroom.
By using practical exercises and group reflections, the program aimed to build a foundation for non-violent interactions and empower young people with tools to create a more harmonious school environment.
Our peace educational initiative has provided valuable insights into how targeted, participatory approaches can reduce violence and improve social cohesion. The pilot program not only highlighted the importance of early intervention, but also laid the groundwork for scaling similar initiatives in diverse contexts. Moving forward, we plan to refine our methods and expand our reach, including plans to adapt the program for other communities facing violence, and ensuring that our educational work continues to inspire lasting change.
